SABC journalist Cebo Manyaapelo died of cancer

MAHIKENG, November 30  – Renowned veteran radio personality Cebo Manyaapelo died of cancer, mourners were told at his funeral service in Mahikeng, North West, on Thursday.
“The media must stop spreading false information that Cebo died of depression. He died of colorectal  cancer,” his cousin Golaotswe Mmolai told a packed hall of several hundreds at the North West University’s Great Hall.
She said he died in hospital in Mahikeng on November 22, and not at home as previously reported.
North West premier Supra Mahumapelo said the Leopard Golf Club would be named after Manyaapelo to honour him, adding that he was also passionate about the development of village soccer.
Born Cebo Clement Manyaapelo in Taung 50 years ago, Manyaapelo joined Radio Bop in 1983 and moved to Radio Mmabatho in 1985.
He joined the SABC In 1998 when Radio Mmabatho merged with SABC’s Motsweding FM radio station. He was also a television sports journalist.
He was not only known in the sports sector, but had also contributed to the building of a church were he was a member.
Church members said he organised a golf tournament to raise money for the church building.
He is survived by his wife Tidimalo Manyaapelo, four children, his mother and his sister.
